Accessible Innovations in healthcare diagnostics, clean energy, and water distribution receive $30,000 and technical support at the 2022 ASME ISHOW Kenya Virtual Event.
The ASME Innovation Showcase (ISHOW) Kenya announced its 2022 winners: MamaOpe Medicals, Totosci Holdings Ltd., and Ubuntu Waterhub Africa Ltd.
The three prototypes each provide a life-changing solution to issues in their respective industries — which range from healthcare diagnostics to water distribution. MamaOpe Medicals’ solution “MamaOpe” is a non-invasive tool designed to screen for respiratory diseases accurately and automatically, with a special focus on pneumonia in low resource settings. Totosci Holdings Ltd. was selected for its “Totosci USB Chargers” — mobile phone USB chargers that are reliable, convenient, affordable, and locally made. “The Waterhub” from Ubuntu Waterhub Africa Ltd. supports the water, sanitation, and hygiene sector in Africa with revenue collection at water stations using cellular and satellite technology.
The three winners were chosen from eight finalist teams of social innovators from Kenya and Uganda. They will be awarded $30,000 in seed grants and technical support to produce their creative inventions.
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) ISHOW annually connects individuals and organizations developing innovative products that create positive economic and social impact with experts and resources to gain access to industry networks and help market their products.
The ISHOW has supported and funded more than 190 startups from more than 30 countries that are inventing products to solve global challenges, and is supported by The Lemelson Foundation.
