Monique Dyers
Monique Dyers is a leader in renewable energy solutions that also advance equity. As the founder and CEO of EmpowerSun Solutions, she examines how to make solar power and storage more accessible to underserved communities.
The current process for developing solar power projects is complicated and expensive, and can be daunting for small businesses or community landowners. Dyers decided to create an automated system to address these barriers, which can prevent farmers, tribal members, and faith-based groups from sharing in the economic benefits of the renewable energy revolution.

She developed a software that helps users evaluate the viability of their land for solar installation — including the costs and potential economic returns — and guides them through technical, regulatory, and financial hurdles. It also helps connect customers and communities to trusted partners to help implement their solar projects.
Dyers and EmpowerSun Solutions won the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Contest of the American-Made Solar Prize Round 7, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy to spur solar innovation. Her work is helping ensure that renewable energy projects can have the widest possible adoption to combat climate change, while also ensuring local ownership and benefit for communities that have been historically excluded from energy innovation.
A New Orleans native, Dyers earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University and a MS in Electrical Engineering from Southern University and A&M.
